Woodridge Farm offers Something for Everyone

The Woodridge Farm draft of horses for the 2010 National Yearling Sale to be held at Karaka starting February 1 features something for everyone. In The Premier Sale catalogue they will offer a filly by Australian sire sensatuion, Stratum, and a colt by Testa Rossa. The Select Sale offering is made up of two colts and a filly by Duelled, and for those with a more modest budget there are eight quality lots in the Festival Sale by several sires including new season sire son of Redoubts Choice, Lucky Unicorn and Haunui Farm based stallion Don Eduardo.

As always, the yearlings are available for pre sale inspection before they head to Karaka. Use the contact page to make arrangements.

Another Quality Draft at The Ready to Run Sale

Woodridge Farm are proud to present 12 2yr olds at this years National Ready to Run Sale to be held at Karaka on November 17. Breeze Ups will take place at Te Rapa Racecourse on October 19 and 20. The clips of the Breeze Ups will be availble from NZ Bloodstock from October 27.

The horses will be available for inspection prior to the sale at Boxes C7 to 19 at the sales complex.

Woodridge Farms Matriarch foals to St Reims

Tolingca, Woodridge Farm's resident broodmare has presented Alan and Galene with another lovely filly, this time by NZ bred sire, St Reims. This is her third filly in succession, having previously dropped fillies by Black Minnaloushe and Scardee Cat.

Woodridge Farm Graduate wins Karaka Millions

The Heckler, winner of the Karaka Millions at Ellerslie on January 25, was sold as a yearling at Karaka in 2008 by Woodridge Farm. He was originally selected and purchased by Alan and Galene at the Inglis Weanling Sale in Sydney with the aim of presenting him at Karaka where he was knocked down for $70000 to well known Auckland owner, Peter Walker. He was placed with Cambridge trainers, Murray and Bjorn Baker after being broken in and gelded. He has had three starts for two wins and a sixth, with stake earnings of over $550000. Alan believes he will be a better three year old.

BEST JADE HORSE WINS AT GROUP LEVEL AGAIN

Best Jade Horse continued his good form in Macau on the weekend with a win in the Group 3 Winter Trophy over 1800 metres. This is equivalent to an International Listed Race. He won easily by 4 lengths after sweeping to the lead at the top of the home straight. In five starts this season he hasn't finished further back than 3rd

A REAL SUCCESS STORY FROM MACAU

In April of 2007, Woodridge Farm negoiated the sale of an Ebony Grosve 3yr old gelding to Macau through Phil Cataldo Bloodstock on behalf of a stable client. He had raced once in NZ as Willie de Toy, but was re named upon arrival in Macau to Best Jade Horse. In little over a year he has won at Group 2 level, and twice been placed at Group 3, earning his new owner more than NZ$250,000. He is now rated in the top 10 staying horses on the island.Alan originally purchased him for $4000 at the 2003 National Weanling Sale, he was re offered at the following years Yearling Sale and then again at the Ready to Run Sale in 2004, but was passed in both times. He was prepared for racing and ran third at his only NZ start at Hawkes Bay as a three year old. Yet another Woodridge Farm success showing that you dont have to spend big to win big.

OCTOBER 15 AND ANOTHER FILLY FOR TOLINGCA

Woodridge Farms resident broodmare, Tolingca, has foaled a lovely chestnut filly by Black Minnaloushe. The filly has a very distinctive white baldy face, not dissimilar to Jokers Wild. No decision has been made on whether to get her foal again this year or to give her a break from breeding.

ROYAL STAR ENHANCES HIS GROWING REPUTATION

Royal Star proved yet again last Sunday  what an outstanding purchase he was by winning the $350,000 Group 2 3yr Old Challenge over 1400 metres in Singapore. Bought by Gavin Sharrock at the 2005 Festival Sale from the Woodridge Farm draft he has now amassed earnings of well over $350,000 Singapore dollars. On the same card his full brother ran third in a lesser race, he was also sold by Woodridge Farm..

INEXPENSIVE PURCHASE TURNS UP TRUMPS IN SINGAPORE

Royal Star, by Danske out of Ramila, which was sold by Woodridge Farm at the Karaka Yearling Sales several years ago has proved to be a bargain buy for her new owners. He recently ran 2nd in the Group 3 Singapore Guineas over 1600 metres. After settling near the tail of the field he stormed hom to go down by 1/2 length to the winner Ace Armada. The placing brings his total earnings to $173000 Singapore dollars, a great return on the NZ$8500 he cost at the sale.

ANOTHER CHANCE TO PURCHASE A PROMISING RACEHORSE

Woodridge Farm will offer another Volksraad colt at this years Ready to Run Sale. Last year they prepared a half brother to Magic Cape by Volksraad who  was very impressive in winning at the Cambridge Trials on May 29. He is described by his trainer, Wayne Pike, as a very serious racehorse. Woodridge Farm principal Alan Tait believes this years entrant out of the Star Way mare, Silk Chaser, has shown more promise at this stage of his preparation than last years colt.

ANOTHER WEANLING HEADING ACROSS THE TASMAN

Woodridge Farm principal Alan Tait has made a lightening visit to The Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast to purchase another weanling that will be part of the Woodridge Farm draft at The 2008 National Yearling Sale at Karaka in January. He paid $40000 for a brown colt by new season sire Footstepsinthesand out of the stakes winning US mare Be Sweet Marie by West by West. This is her third foal.

WOODRIDGE FARM YEARLING SALES DRAFT EXPANDS

Alan has added to his already impressive Karaka Yearling sales draft for 2008 with the purchase of a Black Minnaloushe colt at last weekends Weanling Sale for $17000. Besides his own yearlings he expects to present at least 5 for valued stable clients bringing the total draft to over 10. One or two will hopefully be in the Premier Catalogue.

WOODRIDGE FARM ADDS TWO MORE TO ITS KARAKA DRAFT

Woodridge Farm principals, Alan and Galene Tait, have just returned from the Sydney Weanling Sale having procured two more colts for the National Yearling Sales at Karaka in January 2008. They were successful in purchasing a General Nediym colt out of Emma,  a Danehill mare out of Mapperley Heights , and a colt by the NZ bred Danehill sire , Lucky Owners, out of the Rorys Jester mare, Comedy Cafe..

ANOTHER WOODRIDGE SALE GRADUATE WINS IN HONG KONG

General Danske, a gelding by Danske out oi Royal Pass, who was sold at the 2004 Karaka Yearling sales was successful in a Class 4 event over 1200 metres at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on March 31st. He was purchased for $22000 by Hale/Herne out of the Festival Sale catalogue.

WOODRIDGE fARM ADD TO THEIR FACILITIES

Alan and Galene have taken possession of a Niagra Equissage machine which is being used to aid the recovery from minor injuries suffered by the horses in the stable. Alan is also using it before and after exercising the team, as well as on raceday. The unit is backed by some of the biggest names in thoroughbred racing worldwide, and by many others involved in the equine industry.

WOODRiDGE FARM STRIKE AT SYDNEY SALES

Woodridge Farm, along with a stable client from Sydney,  purchased a stunning colt by Canny Lad at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale held over the weekend in Sydney. They secured him for $70000 after a bidding war with one of Sydneys foremost trainers in Gai Waterhouse. Gai has a very high opinion of his 2yr old full brother, Early Riser, which she currently has in her stable. The colt is out of a Night Shift mare Morning Shift, and was offered for sale by Ruane of Menangle.

The colt will be broken in at Woodridge Farm and be prepared for early 2yr old racing in NZ with the long term aim of taking him back to Sydney for The Inglis Classic worth $500000 for 2yr olds at Royal Randwick run in conjunction with this sale every year.
